Ceramic Hand Painted Tiles: Unique Tiles for the Home

Ceramic hand painted tiles can be installed in your home to provide charm and add interest to any room. These unique and richly colored tiles are perfect for backsplashes, tabletops, fireplace tiles, bathroom walls and wall installations. They are available in numerous engaging designs, among them flowers, birds, fish, peacocks, gazelles and many more. Furthermore, ceramic hand painted tiles are painted with vivid colors then glazed and fired at high temperatures to permanently seal in the colors, making them last a lifetime.

Six-inch Hand Painted Tile Art

Exclusively for kitchen and bathrooms, six-inch ceramic tile art features unique and eye catching tile designs, with bright and vivid colors. Each hand painted tile measures 6 x 6 inches (15 x 15 cm), and about a quarter of an inch thick standard wall tile. The tiles are fired at 1850 F (1000 C), which permanently seals in the colors and glazes, making them fade proof, wash proof and can withstand frequent cleaning using an all purpose tile cleaner. These attractive and durable tiles can either be hung on the wall or installed permanently in a wall.

Bathroom Tile Design

Hand painted ceramic bathroom tiles are painted with a technique called the under glaze method. For tiles with patterns, this process involves first outlining the tile pattern in black, with the rest of the colors then hand painted on the tile. When all the colors are applied, the tile is glazed with a transparent lead free glaze and placed in a ceramic kiln, where it is fired up to a temperature of 1000 degrees centigrade. This red hot temperature melts the transparent glaze on the surface of the tile, sealing in the ceramic colors. It usually takes about twenty-four hours for the firing cycle to be done.

Another technique used for decorating hand painted ceramic bathroom tiles is the in glaze method. For this technique, the black outline is applied to the surface of a glazed and fired tile, with the rest of the colors added afterwards. Then the tile is fired a second time, to a temperature of about 1000 degrees centigrade, which causes the colors to melt into the tile glaze.
